 SEATON BUSINESS FORUM RAISES GAME
The latest arsenal of weapons in the Forums growing armoury is the 'Town Matters' newspaper. This is specifically designed to counter the 'negativism' that dominates everything that gets published locally by the 'free? press' and it is currently being delivered to over 2,000 households in Seaton.
The paper is designed to do two things, one to promote the idea that Seaton is not all 'Doom & Gloom' as many would have you believe and that there are businesses in this town that serve the community very well, and are making money and are also putting it back into the community to further the ends of all the town.
The second is to promote businesses to local residents so that more people will realise that Seaton has something to offer them without the need for them to drive to Exeter, Honiton or further afield.
The reaction from members and non-members alike has been really excellent and there is wide interest for another edition of the paper as soon as possible. We are now currently working on the next issue so if you have a desire to promote your shop or business, or have an article that you would like incorporated into the paper - call us now to arrange for a visit or a chat.

WELCOME TO THE SEATON BUSINESS FORUM
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to new visitors to our homepage.
We believe that the SBF voices much of what people here think and does it in a 'no frills' way that gets the point home (subtle we're not).
The Town will be going through some tough times over the next 5 years - do you want a unified voice? one that does not run scared when the going gets a little rocky? Well! the SBF is here and by becoming a member you will be joining a strong organisation that is prepared to fight for Seaton and it's businesses.
There is much here that deals with the problems of Seaton. Do you agree? if your interested in becoming involved and putting a wider perspective on the issues then give us a call or email us an article or two for inclusion on this site. Become a member and benefit from our advertising and marketing campaigns.

COMMISSION TELLS IT LIKE IT IS!
The Competition Commission's report follows an eight-month investigation of the £123 billion grocery market. It was triggered by mounting public concern over the unprecedented dominance of the “big four” supermarket groups, and Tesco in particular.
The report makes it clear that the commission is deeply worried about the emergence of “Tesco towns” where only one company can prosper.
It says the commission will consider “very carefully” how this should be tackled.
Figures in the report show how the supermarkets' high street stranglehold has killed off thousands of smaller rivals in recent years. While supermarket sales have increased by 26 per cent in real terms since 2000, those of specialist stores such as butchers and greengrocers are only one per cent higher.
Over the same period the number of supermarkets operated by Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco has doubled.
However, the number of specialist grocery stores, ranging from bakers to cheese shops, has dropped from 40,351 in 2000 to 37,521 in 2005, a fall of seven per cent.

BUSINESS & COUNCIL PARTNERSHIPS
The Seaton Business Forum has been trying to force the council and local groups to come together and work in partnership for two years now with very little success. It seems that the distrust and open dislike of personalities in the town has resulted in the 'fog of war' blinding the participants from seeing the real picture. Then again this open season on constructive groups may well have been a 5th column activity by those representing the developers interests to ensure that the businesses did not get the chance to be involved in the regeneration plans.
